About Melissa

I have an MEd from WIU and a degree in Education from Olivet Nazarene University. For nine years I taught 7th and 8th grade, one year of 9-12, and am presently teaching adult learners. Over the years I've been involved with teaching in preschool and elementary environments via school programs or church activities. I am a certified teacher and a clinical mental health therapist. I love to teach as I see it as being the way to change the world. I believe in educating the whole child. Presently, I have DCFS clearance as well as excellent people skills. I have an extensive history of working with learners who face challenges in academic pursuit and have a hefty education in assisting with matters of developmental delay, autism, emotional/ behavioral academic issues, and dyslexia.

I have achieved a lexile score that many American citizens do not have. My reading and English skills are stellar.

You will be hard pressed to find a teacher more passionate about education and more prepared than I. I will strive to help you or your child to understand that they are a winner and are capable while I also assist them in catching up.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Nutrition

Nutrition is my passion! In college I minored in Nutrition and am a certified teacher of such. I've taught this at both a junior high level and at a college level. I have exceptional knowledge of nutrition and dietetics.

Study Skills

As a certified teacher, I have spent most of my career teaching students how to study. Learning how to study is an important part of being a successful student.
