About Jimmy

I look forward to helping you not only learn Math, Chemistry, and Physics, but appreciate these fascinating subjects! My time as a Teaching Assistant in college was one the most enjoyable and rewarding parts of my college experience. I frequently took my own time to help my students with extra study sessions before tests and earned a reputation as the “TA to have.” My sessions frequently filled first. I taught General Chemistry for 11 semesters teaching over 400 students, and tutored students in Physics and Biology. My evaluations were consistently straight “excellent” in all categories. I completed over 200 college credit hours, including significant coursework in Chemistry, Biology, and Math, as well as Education courses for high school before returning to Central Illinois with my wife and two daughters to help run our sustainable family farm in Bartonville.

I enjoy math and all the sciences, and can explain concepts clearly in understandable language.

I encourage prospective students to meet with me for a free consultation before we begin to ensure the coursework and relationship will be a good fit.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

Solving basic math problems has always been a passion for me. Math was one of my favorite subjects in school, and when I took the ACT my math score was a 34. Since then I have taken college algebra, linear algebra, statistics, calculus I,II, and III. With my experience as a TA in college and a strong aptitude for taking tests like the ACT, I am very capable of tutoring ACT math.

Chemistry

I have had a great deal of teaching experience while in college. I taught chemistry as a TA for five years, along with tutoring a few students. During my time as a TA I would frequently offer extra study sessions so my students could get help if they needed it.

I am qualified as a chemistry tutor through my extensive knowledge of chemistry. While in college I took General chemistry I and II, organic chemistry I and II, quantitative chemistry, biochemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, instrumental analysis, forensics chemistry, and did chemistry research.

GED

I have had a great deal of teaching experience while in college. I taught chemistry as a TA for five years, along with tutoring a few students. During my time as a TA I would frequently offer extra study sessions so my students could get help if they needed it.

I am qualified as a general knowledge tutor through my extensive knowledge of many subjects. While at college I took more than 200 credit hours that spanned nearly every department from film to molecular biology.

Organic Chemistry

While at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale I majored in chemistry and was a chemistry TA for 5 years. I frequently taught extra study session classes in chemistry for my students, and occasionally substitute taught for a few professors. I did undergraduate research to analyze the binding coefficients of chiral enantiomers to various molecules using fluorescence anisotropy in order to help identify good substrates to separate the molecules. While in college I took General chemistry I, II ; organic chemistry I, II ; biochemistry; quantitative chemistry; forensics chemistry; physical chemistry; inorganic chemistry; and instrumental analysis.

Based on my extensive chemistry background I am competent to tutor on most chemistry topics.

Physics

I have had a great deal of teaching experience while in college. I taught chemistry as a TA for five years, along with tutoring a few students. During my time as a TA I would frequently offer extra study sessions so my students could get help if they needed it.

I am qualified as a physics tutor since I took three physics courses during college. My preference is teaching kinetics, momentum, and force and motion. I have previously helped a few friends pass physics as well.

Excited and motivating

My kids have 0% interest in working on math, but they really seem to respond to Jimmy. They were so far behind, but watching them work together give me immense hope.
