Bio

I am a recent graduate of the University of Chicago, with degrees in English (Honors) and South Asian Studies. During college, I tutored and co-taught in many schools, including the Chicago Free School (CFS), a democratic school on the mid-South Side of Chicago. At CFS, I worked primarily with younger students (K - 2), focusing on literacy and math. I taught at CFS from the fall of my freshmen year through the spring of my senior year, and I enjoyed becoming a part of CFS's school community...

I taught at CFS from the fall of my freshmen year through the spring of my senior year, and I enjoyed becoming a part of CFS's school community over the course of my time there. In addition to my work at CFS with younger students, I served as a group tutor for four second grade students at STRIVE Tutoring on Chicago. At STRIVE, I facilitated lesson plans, organized activities/games, and managed inter-student dynamics.

This summer, I served as a fourth to sixth grade teacher at Metro Achievement Center in Chicago, with 25 students in each of my three classes. At Metro, I designed and executed curriculum, including creating engaging math games and worksheets as well as assessments. I instituted "break out" sessions with my sixth grade class for students who needed more support and/or more challenging material. Over the course of the three week session, on average, 78% of students tested higher on post-assessments than on pre-assessments, indicating a strong gain in content knowledge.

I also have experience working with older students. During my freshmen and sophomore years, I tutored for GEAR-UP at Dunbar Vocational Career Academy in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood. I tutored students in many subjects, with focuses on math, English, and reading comprehension. While I oversaw a classroom of fifteen GEAR-UP students, I usually worked one-on-one with students as I tried to explain and unpack connections in subject matter. I have also worked with continuing education students preparing for professional exams or who are retaking the ACT.

I understand how to adapt my approach to students from various backgrounds and age groups. Each of my teaching experiences taught me how to better facilitate learning in more effective and engaging ways, and I am excited to do so with your student!

I would love to work with you and your student!
