I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics, and I finished a Masters degree in Applied Statistics in December of 2013. My strengths are in teaching high school and lower college level math and statistics to students who don't "get" math. I have an easy-going, patient personality, and I believe there is no such thing as a bad question. I am good at breaking math down to it's most basic level, and going through every step to ensure that you don't get lost. If a particular concept isn't making sense to you, I will try to find another (and another, and another...) way to explain it until it does make sense.
I am an instructor at a local college in Peoria, and thus I have access to classroom space through my job - so I can provide a safe and quiet place for us to work, if needed! I'm more than happy to meet wherever it's most convenient for you, though. I really love teaching! It's what I want to do for the rest of my life, so please, if you're struggling with anything I might be able to help you with, drop me a line! My daughter, who is a senior in high school, has always struggled with math. Sara teaches the material in a way my daughter can understand. She is enjoying math for the first time and gets so excited when she does well on tests. She also loves working with Sara and finds the time spent with her fun as well as educational.
Sara answered when I called, made herself available to my very difficult schedule, was very patient, knows statistics better than my own professor, was able to immediately work through my questions. Four hours with Sara and I was able to obtain one 80% one 90% and one 100% on quizzes and a test! This is the best investment I could have made in my education. Thanks!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received my B.S. in Statistics from Montana State University in 2004 and my M.S. in Applied Statistics from Illinois State University in 2013. My current position is Coordinator of Institutional Research/Math Faculty at Midstate College.
I have over 20 years of experience playing the viola, which is very similar to the violin. I took lessons myself for 10 years, and have given lessons to beginner/intermediate violin and viola students. I have had 3 students so far, and truly enjoy giving lessons - so I'd love to expand that student base!
