In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified teacher in the state of Illinois. I have a degree in Elementary Education. I also have an endorsement in social studies and language art in middle school. I currently work as a Reading Interventionist for District 150. My classes are small with an average of four to six students. My students range from kindergarten to eighth grade. I am registered at the Regional Office of Education in Tazewell and Peoria County.
I taught reading interventions for three years for students kindergarten through 8th. We taught with a program called 95%. It was all about phonological awareness. We also taught Heggerty, which is another program for teaching phonological awareness. There is a test that we used to see what level the student was at for the 95%. For example, first level is sounds, next is nonsense words and it continues with cvc and long vowels, etc.
