About Daniel

I am a current medical student at Rush Medical College, and I have been tutoring students in math and science for the past seven years. Working with high school, college and professional students to obtain their academic goals has been a humbling and fulfilling experience, and I would be happy to help you or your child achieve the same academic success.

I have worked for private academic companies, test companies, as well as a personal in-home tutor. As an MCAT instructor, I have been responsible for teaching and designing custom lesson plans for a classroom of students, but I find working with individual students to be more gratifying. When I work individually with students, I begin by breaking down difficult concepts and then work through a few example problems together. At the end, I have students teach me how to apply the concepts with a new problem in order to solidify the material. Keeping sessions interactive engages students and ensures that they are developing mastery of the material.

Academic History:
M.D. Candidate 2018
B.S. in Biochemistry with High Honors (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Logic

Logic problems are identifying key words and translating them into a word problem. I have prepped two of my friends for the math section of the GMAT without taking the GMAT myself. When it comes to logic, it's about teaching students tricks and mnemonics to help them translate question stems into word problems that they can solve.

MCAT

I have been an MCAT instructor for the past two years. I have taught MCAT courses for Examkrackers, as well as worked as a personal MCAT tutor for Next Step Test Prep. I currently work for Next Step, but the amount of available students are limited so I'm trying to obtain more students to instruct.

Organic Chemistry

I've been an MCAT tutor for over two years and I have helped numerous students excel with the organic portion of the MCAT. Mastering organic chemistry entails understanding the core concepts and applying them in a systematic fashion to solve problems. When I work with students, we start by reviewing the key concepts or organic chemistry followed by practice problems to ensure mastery of the material.
