Hello my name is Kela and I am currently in the Master's program at Mississippi Valley State University. My major is Social Work, but I find myself teaching younger children and tutoring peers. I am also a peer tutor tutoring English. My tutoring methods are using flash cards, gathering practice tests for my students, going over subjects that needs to be address and making sure each student has full understanding of their lesson before the session is done, while improving study habits. My tutor experience so far had been wonderful. My students are enjoying class now and getting better grades.
During the last past two summers I have worked with a group of students ages 6-12 on their boosting their reading skills. This was a summer program known as The Children's Defense Fund Freedom School. This school focused on getting these children's reading scores and grades up so they would be to pass to the next grade. After helping these students and seeing how much they loved to read I immediately went into tutoring and I've been enjoying every moment. Please feel free to contact me for help, I am willing to help. Hello my name is Kela and I am currently in the Master's program at Mississippi Valley State University. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Track and Field is my favorite sport. I ran track while in school, from 7th grade-12th grade. I was a long distance runner, where I ran cross country as well. During my last two years of high school, we held a summer track camp and small children from 6 on up were able to participate as well. During this time, my track coach assigned me to work with the children who were placed to run long distance. I really enjoyed working with these children and during their track meets, they always left the field with either a ribbon or medallion. My experience working with these children was awesome and until this day I still visit my high school track and track coach to see if there is anything I can help out with. Track and Field will always be my favorite sport and if I could still compete in meets I would.
