Hi. My name is Kathryn and I am here to help. I believe hands on learning and writing are essential aspects of a students learning career to gain “big ideas” they will use throughout their lifetime. I originally received a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Throughout my student career, I had great teachers that encouraged my writing. Although I worked in that field for a couple of years, I realized I want to teach students and guide them the same way I was guided. I have received my certification for teaching elementary and middle school students. By pointing out positive aspects of student’s abilities, I believe they become confident to work on more difficult tasks they are having. I am an experienced tutor in language arts, science, and reading.
I look forward to hearing from you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Reading is an essential aspect for growing independently. While students need comprehension skills to progress in school, it is important they realize how reading can impact learning outside of school as well. However, students may become frustrated or impatient as they read and do not understand the material. I think finding engaging material and using vocabulary at their lexile level will encourage children to move forward in their education and overall, increase the time they spend reading on a daily basis.
