About Matt

I am a friendly, easygoing person with 2 years teaching experience. I have taught all ages, from children to engineering executives. For over two years in Madrid, I lived in the city, taking the train all over to my various jobs. I have taught private lessons as well as teaching a class of 10 eight year olds in the public elementary. This experience makes me fairly unique and qualified to tutor a wide range of students, including those who only speak Spanish. My education in Deerfield then at the University of Wisconsin have also well prepared me for this position. I majored in English and specialize in Shakespeare, American literature, and comedy writing as I have completed the Comedy Writing courses at Second City. This also proves that I am kinda funny too, which helps to entertain while educating, resulting in a more fun, interactive lesson. I encourage when I teach, I genuinely want to help, and feel good when I do. I hope to make this a career so I can do something I'm proud to do and to help make our neighborhood a little better. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

I have played basketball since I was a child, though high school varsity was the last organized team I played on. After college, I continued to play regularly, about 3 times a week at community centers or outside. I know the game and love the game and am confident coaching teenagers or kids. I have a good knowledge of the fundamentals and will encourage and teach the student in a positive, practical manner.
