My name is Gail, and teaching and learning has been at the heart of my life for most of my life! After many years in the classroom working with junior high and high school students in particular, I've learned multiple methods for helping struggling students learn effective strategies for mastering content and skills related to reading and writing and grammar. Many students can benefit from a boost of confidence. Often, students feel defeated for a number of reasons--lack of response from a classroom teacher, the need to learn in a particular style such as auditory or visual, or previous discouraging or challenging experiences. Success and confidence are possible!
Recently, I've worked with Korean students studying in the United States to improve their English. I also serve as an adjunct faculty instructor for a two-year college teaching an online Reading and English Strategies course in the General Education branch of the school.
I find that quite a bit of learning can take place from tackling school assignments in a sensible way. My experience with a variety of learners gives me a good footing in new situations. I welcome student and parent input. I'll work with you to make reading and/or writing strong tools for tackling other content areas now and in the future.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Though my state certification is 6-12, I have worked with many students third grade and up. My experience includes overnight summer camps, summer school, and tutoring of American and international students. I worked with many remedial students in a middle-school setting, and my approach to teaching students includes strategies individualized for each student but based on tried-and-true methods and strategies.
