About Riva

I am convinced that every human being has the innate ability to learn. However, people learn differently. Understanding that learning styles may vary from person to person, I take time to learn my student's learning styles. During our first meeting, I have an assessment that I will require my student to complete. This assessment will determine his/her learning style. I believe this information is important if I am going to be successful.

In addition, I firmly believe that learning doesn't have to be boring and exhaustive. It's can be fun and energizing. Once I learn my student's preferred learning styles, I customize my lessons to make sure to incorporate educational activities that are stimulating, and that are in accordance with his/her styles of learning.

I have dedicated most of my adult life to working with children and adults that are dealing with adverse situations. I celebrate my ability to reach my students no matter their age, ethnicity, gender, or situation. The most recent position I held was for Alabama Southern Community College. I worked as an Adult Education Instructor/ Workforce Ready Instructor. The program I worked for is called LifeTech, a re-entry program for adult men trying to get their parole granted. I taught GED and Workforce Readiness, including WorkKeys, a career readiness assessment.

As a Counselor with Inner Harbour Psychiatric Hospital for Children, I worked with children at-risk. I functioned as a teacher's assistant during the day while the children were in school, and a counselor during the evening. While working this position I learned how to successfully engage children and teens that have emotional and behavioral disorders.

I completed my Master of Divinity degree in 2012. While at the ITC (Interdenominational Theological Center) in Atlanta, Georgia. I was inducted into the International Society of Theta Phi, an honor society for theological students. My last two semesters I was also a teacher's assistant for one of my professors. Alongside my Master of Divinity degree, I also accomplished a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at Northern Illinois University, and an Associate of Arts in Sociology at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

I believe in accomplishing any and everything that I set out to do. I am confident in my ability to reach and teach anyone that's interested in my service!
