California State University at Los Angeles (English)
I've been teaching GENERAL, ACADEMIC ENGLISH, and BUSINESS ENGLISH in France and Germany for the past 14 years. I've recently moved to the Chicago area and am offering my services to those who want to improve their English speaking, reading, or writing.
I have a strong writing, editing, and proofreading background. Previously, I edited and coordinated scripts in Hollywood, California, for film and television. Some of the projects in which I collaborated were Kill Bill, Jackie Brown, Men in Black 2, and the television series Once and Again for ABC.
If you're a student who wants to improve your grades, I structure courses to meet your academic requirements and needs. We can use your own school materials if you prefer. I have also designed an Academic English Writing program to aid university students in writing their essays.
Fourteen years' experience helping students to improve their English grades. Alisee, a 17-old-student from France, was able to bring her grades up from Ds to a Bs in just one year. Many of my students at university have gone on to live abroad and carry out their international internships.
ADULT ESL PROGRAM
If you're an adult for whom English is a second language, I can help you become more fluent and improve your pronunciation by tailoring the class to your business needs.
My business English students have been able to use English more effectively in their jobs. Sandrine's boss wanted her to succeed him as a country manager, but he wanted to be sure she was able to perform at work using a high level of English to negotiate, make presentations, and socialize with clients.
SPEAK MORE FLUENTLY AND CORRECTLY AND PRONOUNCE MORE CLEARLY
In GENERAL ENGLISH classes, I help you communicate more clearly by increasing your vocabulary and teaching good grammar. Pronounciation is key to getting your point across confidently.
I believe in continuing education and lifelong learning. I enjoy traveling and studying foreign cultures. I also have an appreciation for literature and reading.
My students are given plenty of encouragement, confidence, and the feedback necessary for improvement. We use real-world material so the classes are dynamic and learner focused, and you have the opportunity to put your English to practice immediately. I am happy to teach in person, or by Skype, or telephone. Learning should be rigorous and fun at the same time. Susan is very patient, positive and knowledgeable. She prepared my girl for HS entrance exam. Susan assessed where my girl needed help, brought additional resources and even motivated my girl with lesson in life. Really satisfied with her and I just hope for the best on my girl's test.

Susan has been very helpful to my son, in the areas of English, reading and writing, as well as study strategies and time management. Susan is prepared, kind, knowledgeable and nonjudgmental in helping my son tackle junior year English, improve his study skills and manage his workload as a student-athlete. He is more engaged and gaining confidence as a student. I would strongly recommend Susan for tutoring.

She prepared well for each lesson. She wrote me some notes to remind me what I did wrong. She is very good at teaching English pronunciation, word stress, and writing.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
