I have always enjoyed teaching people new things. I always try to find effective ways to explain a concept to someone. Many of my students feel like English should be easy because it's our language, but it is very challenging. I like to help students understand the language and the writing process.
My goal is to help students become critical readers and effective writers. I break down concepts, so my students can learn at their own pace. I really enjoy working one on one with students because I feel students can get the individualized help they need. I received my master's in differentiation, so I can design lessons to help any type of learner.
I received my undergraduate degree in English and Secondary Education. As an undergrad, I was a writing center tutor. I assisted college students with papers in all content areas. I have been teaching high school English for seven years. Within those seven years I have taught freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. I have taught honors, college prep, and REI courses. I have also taught an ACT prep study hall and a prep course for five years.
Please contact me for additional information. I am available to tutor in a public place any week day after 4:30pm. I am also available on Saturday mornings. I look forward to helping you become a stronger learner. Thank you for reading my bio and considering me for your tutoring needs. I have always enjoyed teaching people new things. That lesson was very helpful for my daughter. She really liked the tutor. The teacher was well prepared, patient and super nice. I would highly recommend Melissa as a tutor. Thank you.
She was very helpful with my homework. We reviewed together on English Writing topic for me to study & prepare for upcoming test. Looking forward for next session
Melissa I would recommend to everyone in need of help on ACT English and Reading. I believe I retained more information from one 2 hour session reviewing, than I did from a general ACT prep class (which I have taken twice). She was very knowledgeable on what to help me on, and was very patient. I definitely feel more comfortable taking the ACT. Again, really appreciated her help!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
