I have recently completed a Master Degree in Education from a highly accredited educational institution with exceptional grades. My areas of concentration are in elementary education, with middle school endorsements in Music, Language Arts, ESL and Social Studies. I also have a command of the English language, with exceptional writing, reading and vocabulary skills. Education is my second career. Prior to pursuing education, I completed a Master Degree in Human Resources Management, and worked in the business world for over 20 years. I believe my education and real world work experience is very useful in tutoring students. My undergraduate degree is in Music, and have been a recognized musician. I can certainly say that I have been a lifelong learner.
I have served as a substitute school teacher for the past 7 years in both elementary and middle school classrooms. I am certified to substitute teach math, science, language arts, social studies, music and Spanish in both elementary and middle school.
I believe that teaching children how to think responsibly is very important. My goal is to help a student understand their subject matter, and meet other critical standards, such as creativity, expression, and cooperation. Through the use of an assorted set of high-quality assessments, I believe I can reach students that are not great test takers, or who are just not proficient in certain subjects. As a tutor, it's my responsibility to help students to be goal directed, which will motivate them to perform acceptably.
I'm available to meet at local libraries, in a quiet setting with no distractions. I can also travel to other locations that are more convenient for the student. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In my graduate program, I completed EDGEL-421, Methods of Teaching Math in Elementary Education using Common Core standards. I received a grade of A.
I completed an Elementary Education program at Saint Xavier's University in 2013. I completed Elementary Education Methods courses in: Teaching Reading to Elementary School students, Teaching Social Studies in Elementary School, Teaching Science and Health in Elementary School, and Teaching Math in Elementary School (Common Core). I completed an ESL endorsement program which included: Methods of Teaching English Bilingual and Methods of Material for Teaching ESLs. I believe my Methods classes for which I was enrolled qualify me to teach elementary school students.
I hold a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Northern Illinois University with a concentration in voice.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Northern Illinois University where taking courses in Music History was required. Those courses included three semesters of Music History and Literature courses and three semesters of Music Theory courses. All of these courses covered Bach, Beethoven, Mozart...Baroque...periods up to and including Copeland, as well as the history of writing music for classical music.
I conducted many training classes while in the business world and was a facilitator and speaker in those classes. I have made presentations to Boards of Directors, as well as performing on stage as a professional singer, to hundreds of people. I have performed at the Rialto Theatre in Joliet, Illinois. I have been a substitute teacher for 8 years and possess the necessary experience to address others.
After completing a Bachelor's Degree and two Master's, I feel very comfortable in assisting a student in developing enhanced study skills. I have also helped students with their studying skills while substitute teaching for the past 6 years through completing certain assignments and assessments, and completing courses in Advanced Child Development and Assessments of Bilingual Students.
I have completed a Bachelor's in Music at Northern Illinois University. Voice was my concentration. I have since become a professional singer. I have completed undergraduate courses in Diction for Singers, Concert Choir, Private Voice Lessons, Opera Workshop, Madrigals for 8 semesters while at NIU.
