About Alla

My passion for teaching originates from within ever since I realized at a young age that I’m at my best when I learn and better myself with continuous knowledge. I’m aware that learning is not as easy at times and a great deal of practice and dedication is required to do well. I take pride in helping other students achieve their goal and enjoy seeing that I was able to help them. Although I’m new to the WyzAnt tutoring platform, historically I’ve helped several of my classmates with assignments, and more recently as a software engineer I also mentor new hires at the organization I work with challenges associated with assigned development projects.

Currently I’m a part time student at Loyola UC pursuing my master’s degree in software engineering and see myself with some time that I can devote to helping other achieve their academic goals while helping pay for my costs of education.

I’m currently accepting students who need help in any of the following areas: computer science, Java and C-base programming, prealgebra & trigonometry, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), elementary math, HTML, and Oracle or SQL Server. In the near future I’m also considering tutoring algebra 1 and more advanced trigonometry.

My teaching methodology is dynamic and I do my best to tailor it so that the student feels more confident about the subject matter after concluding the session. However, I generally find it most beneficial to spend the first five to ten minutes prior to the starting the lesson to understand what are the areas that the student needs help with. During my tutoring session I find it most beneficial to measure the student’s level of understanding prior to advancing to other topics or problems. My teaching arrangements can be any of the following: local library, student residence, or online.
If you feel that I will be a good for you or if you have any questions that you would like to ask please do not hesitate to email me. I look forward to hearing from you soon and helping you achieve success in your studies. ?

My understanding that math is a challenging subject for many and to get better at it you need a lot of self-practice only after tutoring to help you with the complicated areas that is preventing you from completing you assignments. I find myself qualified to teach elementary math, prealgebra, and trigonometry. I can also help with more advanced algebra & trigonometry if needed but I require the prospective students to send an email with the specific areas of the subject matter so that I can make time and other arrangements to organize the lesson points. My bachelor’s degree in computer science required me to complete several math courses like algebra, linear algebra, calculus I, II, and III.

During my career and undergrad I’ve worked on several programs that utilize C-based programming languages (C & C++). I currently work as a software engineer using the Java programming language. Through my personal experience with programming problems and software development in general, I encountered countless issues with my code that I learned from and have gained the discipline to help other with similar issues.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C++

There reason I believe I’m qualified to teach C/C++ is because I have significant programming background experience in programming in these languages that is obtained from course related studies and projects during my undergrad. I currently work as a junior software engineer in the Chicago loop area, and part of my job is to help new hires with issues they encounter during development. I program in Java, with significant T-SQL/SQL scripting with some minor exposure to simple HTML & Javascript.

Computer Programming

I see my self qualified to teach computer programming because of my career and formal education in Computer science. I’ve programmed in languages such as, C, C++, and PHP. Currently I currently work as a software engineer using Java, and I find through experience with helping new hires at my organization that a lot of the issues faced by programmers are primarily caused by logical programming bugs with exception to some syntax issues in the code. I find that programming requires a high level of detail/attention when debugging programs and I find that practice programs with the intention of gauging and building the student’s level of attention to details is a great way of helping them improve.

Computer Science

I see myself qualified to teach computer science because of my career and formal education in Computer science and current enrollment in grad school in pursuit of a master’s degree in software engineering. I’ve taken numerous courses in programming languages such as, C, C++, PHP, PASCAL, and Java that involve formal Object Oriented Programming (OOP) practice. In addition to this I’ve also taken several OOP courses which aim to teach student the fundamentals of solving real world problems in OOP method. I addition to these courses, my undergrad and grad studies encompass several CS related courses outside of the programming spectrum; such as, computer architecture, computer networking, wireless 802.11 security, and network security and intrusion detection.

Elementary Math

My understanding is that math is a challenging subject for many and to get better at it you need a lot of self-practice only after tutoring to help you with the complicated areas that are preventing you from completing your assignments.

Oracle

I see myself qualified to help students with their Oracle SQL and Microsoft TSQL related challenges because of my 2+ years with on the job hands-on experience. I use these technologies to store, update, and obtain information from tables (back-end development) to allow clients to manipulate their information using front-end interfaces.
