Hola! I am very energetic and eager to work one-on-one with students in Spanish and help with their abilities and confidence in the language.
My name is Ms. Jennifer and I am certified to teach Spanish grades K-12. I have my BA in Latin American and Latino Studies and Spanish from UIC and my MA in Education from St. Xavier University. I have experience in tutoring various academic subjects (including Spanish) to elementary, middle school, junior high, and high school students.
I am currently in my 4th year as a Spanish teacher for gifted 4th-6th grade students. I also have 1.5 years experience in teaching Spanish at the high school level for the following Spanish levels: Spanish I, Spanish I for heritage speakers, Spanish II, Spanish II for heritage speakers, Spanish III, and Spanish III Honors. This past year I tutored high school students in Spanish 2, Spanish 3 and Spanish 4 Honors.
Last summer I attended the University of Salamanca in Spain in a program specially designed for Spanish teachers from around the globe. This program focused on motivation in the Spanish classroom, technology use in Spanish, and other up-to-date strategies useful to your or your child's Spanish acquisition.
I will work one-on-one with students of all ages and all Spanish abilities to help build their confidence and knowledge of Spanish language and culture. We will create goals together and work diligently to accomplish them. I firmly believe in interactive and engaging activities and games to assist students in their acquisition of learning Spanish as well as help increase their confidence with using the language. I also include the use of authentic materials in all of my lessons.
I look forward to hearing from you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have personal experience in applying to undergraduate and graduate education. I have helped my younger brother in his pursuit of college education. Also, I was a mentor and chaperone for at-risk students of an alternative school program for Chicago Public Schools while visiting nearby and out-of-state colleges.
I can assist in writing personal entrance essays, writing scholarship essays, and the overall college application or financial aid processes.
