Lewis University (English)
My name is Brandy, and I am a recent graduate of Lewis University. At Lewis, I experienced a variety of subjects such as statistics and immigration law, but I remained committed to double major with honors in English and Secondary Education as well as minors in Chinese and Spanish. In addition to my study at Lewis, I've contributed to current scholarly research by presenting on an array of subjects such as the fundamental influence of Chinese language upon its culture and even suggestions for pro-immigration policy reform between the U.S. and Mexico. I've also had the opportunity to expand my interests in volunteer work by participating as a member of a Colombian mission trip for consecutive years as well as lead the vacation bible school at a local church for many years. Overall, I am an open-minded, lifelong learner and educator who enjoys being a contributing member of the global community.
In regards to my experience as a tutor specifically, I have had the opportunity to guide students to success in English and Spanish at an array of levels and in multiple learning environments. First of all, I've tutored students at the college level to improve their skills in writing including style, grammar, organization, and fluency of ideas. In addition to upper-level tutoring, I've also held conferences with students to improve their reading and writing at the middle school level. During such sessions, strategies were implemented and emphasized to facilitate future understanding and application of reading comprehension and generation of thorough explanatory writing. These conferences all have been initiated through in-person conferencing, real-time phone conferences, and online feedback through platforms like Google Docs.
Lastly, while my experience with tutoring students in the field of language is limited to in-person conferencing at the middle school level, my strategic study of language in my academic career has provided me with the necessary knowledge and resources to address the subjects in the tutoring session effectively. Clearly, my scholarship and experiences in the field of education have appropriately prepared me to facilitate the success of others. Bienvenidos! Welcome!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
