While attending McKendree University, I began tutoring my peers in chemistry, physics, and math. After graduating with a Spanish major and math minor, I began working for Mathnasium (and later Sylvan), where I had the opportunity to teach students (ages 7-adult) using a more "outside the box" approach. Elementary (K-6th),

During my time at Mathnasium and Sylvan, a huge portion of the students were elementary age. In that group, I would say the largest numbers were students from 4th-6th grade because those are really critical years where the difficulty rises substantially. Long division, learning to graph points, and especially fractions are the bane of many kids' existence. Through my training, I've learned to help students actually understand what they are seeing, rather than just dreading the questions and hoping they can look at the numbers and guess.
