University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Kinesiology)
Hello All, My name is Austin. I am a student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I am pre-med getting my B.S. in kinesiology and a minor in chemistry. My ultimate goal is to attend medical school to become an orthopedic surgeon. I am very passionate about what I study in school. Since I plan on going to medical school I have a bit more schooling still to go, so clearly if I wasn't passionate about what I do I wouldn't be doing it. In my free time, I enjoy watching professional sports, staying active by exercising, playing tennis, and weight lifting.
Although I do not have a ton of experience tutoring, I highly value the power of education that can be used as a tool that one can use for the rest of their life. If I am able get at least one person excited to learn more and explore different subject, I work extremely well with others. I am a very patient person as well. I would be extremely excited to fuel a child/teenager's to pursuit to higher education. In the grand scheme of tutoring, that is my number one goal. Although it sounds cliche, knowledge is power is a phrase I like to keep near and dear to me. In any situation, the best thing one can do is educate themselves on that topic. As for the tutoring opportunities that I have encountered, I have participated in the America reads/counts program. I, essentially, went to a local middle school and helped them with their daily math lessons and addressed any questions they may have had. More recently, I tutored French at a local high school in Champaign-Urbana where I helped French one students understand the basics of French.
When it comes to science, I am a big nerd when it comes to all things related to science, but I tend to gravitate towards life sciences. All of the subjects listed I have taken recently so it is rather fresh in my mind. I am very passionate about biological sciences. I never like to stop learning. I always love learning new tid bits of information whether it is relevant to biology or not. I really enjoy learning in general.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
