I love learning, and have been sharing my love of learning for almost 15 years. I began tutoring in junior high school, working with Kindergarten students during my free period. From there I tutored other kids in math, reading, piano and writing. I love learning, and have been sharing my love of learning for almost 15 years. I began tutoring in junior high school, working with Kindergarten students during my free period. From there I tutored other kids in math, reading, piano and writing. As a college student, I worked as a student ambassador by tutoring athletes and incoming freshmen at Ole Miss in math, literature, writing and special courses like German and music appreciation. I volunteered as a tutor for the Leap Frog Reading Program, where I worked with 2nd graders who were at risk for reading problems in 3rd grade.

I hold a BA in English Rhetoric and Composition with a minor in Math that became the basis of my teaching career. Besides working for tutoring companies, I worked as a substitute teacher until receiving my Master of Arts in Teaching from Dominican University. I have been a certified teacher for 13 years, endorsed to teach K-9, math, ELA, and social studies for grades 5-9.

I can tutor math; test prep ACT, SAT, ASVAB, GED; homework help; language arts; study skills; and problem solving. I tutor math courses from Kindergarten level math all the way to Pre-Calculus. I also work with college freshmen in Reading, College Algebra through Discrete Math, and writing.

My students enjoy our sessions because I believe that learning and math should be fun. I use both conventional and nonconventional methods. Whenever possible I complete any assignments before tutoring the students so that I can anticipate the troubles that may arise during our sessions.

20 minute phone consults are free of charge, and if I am not the person for your educational needs, I will BE HONEST AND LET YOU KNOW UPFRONT, NO COST TO YOU!

I have over 10 years tutoring and teaching experience with grades K-9 in reading, writing, penmanship, and math. I taught 6-8 grade math for 5 years. As a certified teacher with experience in urban settings, I have several years of experience teaching students self management or study skills. As a part of my middle school syllabus, students were graded on the following: organization, taking notes, time management, studying vs. homework, classroom etiquette and test taking skills. Additionally, as part of my ACT prep course, I teach each of my students how to "manage" timed tests, think critically through problems instead of working too hard and process of elimination/ballparking answers before starting to show work.

Algebra 1

I have taught algebra I for 5 years to 6-9 grade students, using a variety of methods including traditional paper/pencil and hands on methods. This is probably my favorite type of math because it incorporates all the things you learn along the way and connects with all other types of math as well.

My tutoring method is designed to assist you with content gaps as well as provide you with some test taking skills. I myself scored a 32 on the ACT in high school without much assistance (there were no affordable tutoring programs in my area). I did well because I learned how to take the test successfully. I also had good exposure to the specific concepts needed to do well in the math section. I have coached several students in the past 10 years. I have a very specific tutoring manual that I have comprised that focuses on best test taking practices as well as the kind of questions you'll be asked.

Great Patient Tutor

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for tutoring my daughter on ACT. You were very patient and through. My daughter liked the way you took your time to teach complex problems and broken down into easily understandable steps. She really enjoyed the session with you. With your help she was able to score high in her very first ACT Test. Will definitively use as my daughter Tutor in future.

Great tutor

Kisha is doing a outstanding job with my son. He really benifits from her style of teaching and I would recommend any student that needs help to her. Thank you WyzAnt for having a tutor who cares about people's education.

Stress Reliever

Kisha has been a God send to our family. Because of her subject expertise, sincerity and dedication, our student has improved a letter grade in Pre- Cal. Other tutors have been successful but what makes Kisha special in our eyes is the laughter we hear throughout their sessions. Not only is she learning but hearing the laughter reassures us that she is also having fun.
