As an undergraduate, I spent time tutoring students at a local school and truly enjoyed the experience of empowering them to feel capable. By helping them succeed academically, I found I was also helping them gain confidence and personal responsibility, and it's great to be able to watch that take effect.
Currently, I am a student at Illinois State University, working toward a Master's degree in Politics and Government with an Applied Community Development sequence. My program focuses on empowering people and communities to grow, and I personally believe that a solid educational foundation is important to achieve that growth. As such, continuing to tutor while I'm in school is a priority for me, so that I can strengthen this community while I'm here.
I graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences, focused on English and Anthropology. After graduation, I interned in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, leading educational programs for school field trips, and spent time working in outdoor education at a YMCA camp in Indiana. Most recently, I spent the 2015-2016 school year helping to homeschool a student, with full responsibility for Language Arts.
English has always been one of my passions. I love the intricacies and nuances of language, and it is my goal to help students achieve a little bit of that passion in addition to gaining an understanding of the material. I've studied literature as well as the art of writing and can help improve a student's understanding of both.
In addition to English, I also offer tutoring and lessons on flute. I have played flute for fourteen years and consistently placed at the top of the section in school. I was a music minor during my undergrad and I took classes in music education. I have given music lessons in the past and look forward to taking on new students!
For either type of lesson, I am typically available Monday and Friday afternoon/evenings, and can travel to you or meet in a public setting such as a coffee shop to
