About Robert

Math doesn't have to be stressful.

I will help you find ways not only to learn the material, but also to identify with it. Identifying with a subject means you make connections to it, even when you're not studying or reviewing.

I offer many different methods. These include fun activities, like games. Games have been proved to boost knowledge and the ability to recall it.

I have a license to teach math, and I have worked with a variety of subjects and learners. My math background includes completing the full range of classes, from algebra to differential equations. I work primarily with high school and college students, but I am open to working with younger students, too. In the past, I worked with students on geometry homework, and their understanding of the subject increased significantly.

I am also open to tutoring other subjects, such as history and English.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

I completed three semesters of Calculus at the University of Illinois and at Illinois Central College.

I am licensed to teach math in Illinois, and I have taught Calculus in high school. I also have tutored individual students in Calculus.

Finite Math

I have completed courses in several areas that would comprise finite math. These include statistics and probability at Eureka College, business math and finance at University of Illinois, and math applications at Eureka College. I also have tutored students in these areas of math, as well as related business areas. To cite one specific concept of the subject: I have worked with students on calculating combinations and permutations.

Linear Algebra

I completed this course at Illinois Central College. I also have taught and tutored the material from it. The concepts I have covered include matrices, determinants, and solution sets. I also have worked with students on using a graphing calculator to solve the problems.

While teaching high school math, I also have presented concepts such as matrices and determinants to students.

Great Job! — Robert does a good job teaching in a clear and effective manner. He's able to go over a variety of topics within a short period of time, but he still manages to cover them fully. He is able to quickly adapt and incorporate a lesson about a topic, if we ask him to the day of the tutor session. ...
