About Robin

I love teaching English as a Second Language!

If you would like to improve your ability to speak, read, understand, and write in English, I can definitely help.

I have been helping students of all ages and ability levels improve their English skills for about 8 years. I received a Master's degree in Education with a TESOL certificate in 2011 and have taught at a local community college since 2010. Before that I was a volunteer ESL tutor with the STAR Literacy program in McLean County, beginning in 2007.

I am very patient and will work to make the learning experience comfortable and fun. I look forward to working with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I received a Master's of Education with a concentration in Teaching English as a Second Language from Ashford University in August 2011 and graduated with a 4.0 out of 4.0 GPA.

I began as a volunteer tutor with the STAR Literacy program in Lansing Michigan about 15 years ago and since then I have worked teaching ESL students of all ages. I taught Adult ESL at a community college in Illinois for four years as well as tutoring students through Wyzant.

I specialize in grammar, pronunciation, and writing and my students tell me that I am extremely patient and easy to work with. I love teaching and will adjust the lessons as we go along in order to make sure that I am meeting my students' needs.

Needlework

I have been knitting and crocheting for over 40 years. I learned the basics from my grandmother at age 8 and have since studied different techniques. I have made and given blankets, baby clothing, and sweaters to friends and relatives for many years. I have also sold a number of winter hat and scarf sets online. I am a patient teacher and would love to share the ability to create beautiful and practical items with anyone who wants to learn.

TOEFL

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ashford University in 2011 with a Master's degree in Education and a TESOL certificate. I have taught Academic ESL students at the university level for 5 years and have recently completed a 120 hour self-study course on TESOL and IELTs test preparation.

Really good first impression.

I met Robin today for the first time and we had an online lesson. She has a well organized way to teach English but she is also flexible if you have other needs. Definitely recommended.
