I'm a math and science tutor. I have primarily tutored high school students, but I can tutor most ages. I come from a long line of teachers, and I enjoy helping students achieve their potential. I still attend school as an undergraduate.

In terms of experience, I started by tutoring 3 high school students until the last one graduated high school a few years ago. I tutored 2 girls and 1 boy. The girls were a set of sisters. I initially was only hired to tutor their eldest child with geometry and chemistry. Over time, they were impressed with the progress I was making with their oldest, so they asked me to take on their other daughter. She needed assistance in biology and algebra. Their parents always let me know how happy they were with the progress the girls were making. The boy was the same age as the oldest girl that I was tutoring. I actually tutored both of them on the same subjects. I also used to tutor all of my friends via Skype when we all went to different universities. My friends had issues learning from their math professors. More often than not, I would teach their topic in a style that helped them most. Each friend saw an increase of at least 1 letter grade with my assistance. I have been tutoring through Wyzant for over a year, and I absolutely enjoy every minute of it.

Switching gears, I was a mathlete from 7th grade all through high school. We took 7th or 8th in state every year. In high school, I took many AP courses including: Biology, Government, and Macroeconomics. I first became passionate about science in junior high.

I participated in science club. I became more interested once I took biology and chemistry. My favorite teacher was my biology teacher, and she later became my AP biology teacher. She had a way of making biology fun and exciting. Once I went to college, I majored in biochemistry because I was passionate about it.

After a year, I became more interested in a mathematics major. When I returned home after my freshman year of college, I officially changed my major to mathematics with concentration in actuarial science and a minor in business and finance. I am the president of a group called Aftermath. This group is primarily for mathematics majors. It enables me to experience things that I can't in the classroom. A trip last year was to the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference in Peoria. Last spring, I attended another math and science conference at College of Dupage. Over the summer, I attended MAAMathfest. It is a large conference for mathematics that attracts people from all over the country. I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge for teaching mathematics. These experiences have benefited my students because I have gained more knowledge to contribute to their learning.
