B.A. Illinois State University (ELA Education)
I am a graduate of Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies Educations, certified to teach English Language Arts. I am interested in becoming an English Language Arts tutor because I am looking for significant teaching experience on my summer off from teaching.
As for tutoring students at the middle school level, I worked closely with middle schoolers over this past summer as a summer camp counselor through the YMCA and immensely enjoyed the age group. Although my student teaching was conducted at a High School, I am qualified in Middle Level Education by a middle school endorsement through Illinois State University. In terms of working in a High School: I have extensive experience working with sophomores, as this was the age group I taught for student teaching as well as for an undergraduate experience in a Sophomore English class at a High School. I am thrilled at the opportunity to work with either age group and look forward to gaining more teaching experience.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions and/or concerns! My schedule is open this summer and I am excited to connect with new students who are ready to learn alongside me! For those who are less than excited to learn this summer, I am ready to motivate you and make your learning experience as painless as possible. My daughter Megan's usual tutor was unavailable to help with her final AP LIt essay of the year. Lauren reached out to me through Wyzant when I was searching for help for my daughter and we scheduled a session. Once Lauren knew the essay prompt, she brainstormed in advance of meeting with my daughter and sent her notes and ideas to consider before even meeting with her. Lauren helped her develop her thesis and outline for her essay so she could move forward on it. Lauren is young and enthusiastic and my daughter really enjoyed working with her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
