About Elizabeth

I began my career teaching as a kindergarten/first grade teacher in a combined classroom at a Christian School. I then taught third grade in a public school for a period of 6 years. I withdrew from public education to raise my family. I home schooled my own children through High School. My children are studying to be a theoretical physicist and a writer in media Communications. I have now returned to public education where I am working in a special education classroom for multi needs children ages third through fifth grade.

I am confident that I can help all students understand any subject they are struggling with. My strength is being able to communicate to the student the exact steps they need to take to understand how to complete their assignments.

Because of my diverse education, I have the ability to present material in many different ways. Assessing a students strength and weaknesses helps me to teach them so that they can reach their full potential. This is what I consider one of my greatest strengths. Learning how my students learn best is what I do to make them most successful.

If you would like to see your student reach their full potential I would love to see if we would make a great fit. Please contact me to schedule a lesson.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I has successfully worked with many students that have the diagnosis of ADD or ADHD. I am certified by the state of Illinois to teach students with this disability and I have learned many different approaches to help students concentrate and focus so that they can reach their learning potential. I am currently in a 3rd through 5th grade Multi-Needs Special Education classroom that has students with ADD/ ADHD.

Autism

I have worked directly with autistic students for the past 2 years. I am certified to teach autistic children in the state of Illinois. I currently teach in a classroom with several autistic children ranging from the ages of 3rd grade through 5th grade.

Dyslexia

One of my strengths is in evaluating and working with students who have special needs. There are different types of dyslexia and different approaches that work well with different students. Elementary (K-6th)

I hold a K-9 Elementary Teaching certificate active in the state of IL. My Elementary Certificate considers me a Standard, Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1). I taught K/ 1st grade for a year and then I taught 3rd grade for 6 years in a elementary classroom. I home schooled my own children through High School. My son is currently in his master's program. He is studying to be a theoretical physicist. My daughter is getting her degree in media communications. They are only a couple of my success stories of students that I have tutored.

Phonics

Teaching phonics is an area I feel is very necessary to help students be successful readers. When I taught k/1 and 3rd grade, phonics was a viable part of my lesson planning. I have successfully tutored Elementary students in phonics. Most of my students have quickly been able to understand phonics skills and learn to decode words on their own. I hold a K-9 Elementary Teaching certificate active in the state of IL.

Study Skills

I have successfully tutored many students in the specific area of study skills. Most of my clients were interested in helping to prepare themselves to go to college. Study skills are a specific area that I have taken an interest in. I have developed materials and power points that help students learn quickly and remember important details as they study. I have learned many different approaches to help students increase their time and their ability to remember facts in order to raise their academic scores.
