I am a Teaching Paraprofessional and have been tutoring children in grades K-2 over the past ten years as both a classroom assistant and after school tutor in multiple schools and programs located in Chicago, Waukegan and North Chicago. I have a great passion for assisting children in these grades reach their potential in both math, reading and phonics.
I feel it is extremely important for children to have a sound knowledge of reading and math during these ages in order to have greater opportunities in their future. I have found through my experience that children learn how to read and perform math in different ways, and therefore teach alternative methods of learning these skills. I have a successful track record of improving children's skills, grades, and confidence in both one-on-one and group settings. I also have a good deal of educational products and materials to assist children when required. I've experienced great success over the past years with all of my students. Additionally, I have have certifications as a Mandated Reporter and for Protecting God's Children.
I hold myself to a very high standard, and therefore will not accept payment unless the parent and student are completely satisfied with the results from my tutoring. Additionally, I am happy to do a free 'first time' tutoring session to evaluate the best teaching strategy. I am available weekday evenings during the school year. Additionally I am available during the summer months and am very flexible with my scheduling. I am willing to meet at your home or a neutral site that is convenient for the student.
I look forward to any opportunities in helping children in grades K-2 reach their full potential in reading and math and would welcome the opportunity to assist your child! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching phonics to K-2 students for the past ten years, particularly in one-on-one or small group settings. For the past nine years I have done phonic pull-outs for K-2 children at a Ministry in Chicago. At two Elementary Schools I have concentrated on teaching phonics to first graders.
