I am a retired special education and ELL teacher of special education with 27 years experience. I am also the author of approximately 40 books for young people. My books have won many awards, such as Notable Books in Social Studies, and Children's Choice Awards. As a teacher, I was in charge of my school's Young Authors' program and encouraged many students to become better writers and readers. Because of my writing knowledge our school had two district and three city-wide wins.
In addition to having had a very successful teaching and writing career, I have also been a Pillsbury Bake-Off finalist three times in a row. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
