I have 12 years of experience as an elementary school teacher and 21 years of experience as an elementary school principal. Although I mainly taught fourth through eighth grade math, I am also comfortable with Language Arts and Social Studies. During my teaching years, I often supplemented my income by tutoring.
Just two months ago, I retired from my job as principal. I find that I am already missing the students! I have three children of my own and five grandchildren and I am crazy about all of them!
I love math and I truly believe that if a teacher loves her subject, the student will grow to love it as well. Additionally, I believe everyone is capable and wants to learn!
I am a stickler for good grammar and spelling. These things are important to future success in any field. I do a good job conveying the importance of these subjects to my students. When a person believes something is important, he tries hard to succeed!
I have experience teaching all subjects in the elementary education curriculum. My students did well and I conveyed to them my enthusiasm and love of learning.
I am anxious to work with students again. Although I loved being a principal, not a day went by that I didn't miss working in the classroom and working one on one with students. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
