I began substitute teaching in 1991. I did this for 13 years, substitute teaching in grades K-8. In 2002, I returned to school and obtained my Masters in Elementary Education in 2004. Later that same year I was hired to teach second grade and did this up until this past year. I loved teaching but am now at the stage of my life where I would rather be employed at a part-time basis.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught for a total of 25 years in K-6 classrooms. First, as a substitute teacher and then as a general education teacher in the second grade.
