I love math, and have enjoyed teaching it to students who need help. I understand that math can be complicated, and it is not something you get right away. I believe with practice and skill one can be better able to understand it. I know this because I also grew up not liking math but, ironically, ended up teaching it. I have taught Math for the past 4 years in one of the lowest performing schools in the city of Chicago. However, due to my professional development as a Math educator I was able to excel students love for Math and Math academic performance. I became an educator because education has opened multiple doors and opportunities for myself and I want to be able to do the same in return for my students! My belief as educator is to be able to provide the tools and resources necessary to help develop a deeper understanding of the content.
What makes me a great educator? I have been teaching Math for grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. I have seen the shifts of standards and how each standard builds upon each other for understanding. I've taught using multiple computer based software interventions, curricular resources, and small group differentiated instruction based off student interest and academic data.
I've taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Math using the common core standards. I've also attended professional development workshops known as the common core standards institution in Washington,D.C. Lastly, I taught using engage NY curriculum which is one of the most aligned curriculum to the common cure standards.
I've taught Math using differentiation based off my students need or ability. I have differentiated for students at, below, or above grade level using the Common Core standards, manipulatives, videos, and guided small group instruction. I have over the years seen tremendous growth on standardized tests and on grade level instruction.
I look forward to meeting, supporting and developing your ability to excel in Math! If you interested, please feel free to contact me. Thank you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
