About Suzanne

If you are tired of having people give up on your child's ability to read and you know that his/her potential is untapped, then I am here to offer my experience and care to your child's education. My degree and experience covers the gamut from severely delayed and impaired children to gifted children who need direction and individualization.

I can make a connection with your child as a human being that needs help with the learning process. I am able to see the best in a learner and also get to the heart of what it is that is slowing down their progress. I am not concerned with previous diagnosis or evaluations. The important thing is not the label your child has been given, but where we go from where he/she is right now. I break down the learning process into small, sequential steps and components that will facilitate clear understanding.

It is my sincerely held belief that anyone can make progress. My specialty is teaching reading skills.

I am an experienced tutor and mother of adults. People tell me that I am very patient and that their children are relaxed and happy in our tutoring sessions.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have a degree in special and elementary education, as well as extensive experience in the private tutoring of ADHD and ADD students. I present learning activities in small components tailored for success. I keep the student interested and learning, by having a variety of activities at hand and redirecting them as needed. The students find success and appropriate challenge in our sessions.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

In addition to having a special education degree that certifies me to teach grades K-12, I have both special education classroom experience and private tutoring experience with autistic children and teens. I am able to develop a good working relationship with the child while we move through the academics.

English

I have a dual degree in K-12 Special education and K-8 elementary ed, along with classroom teaching experience and decades of private teaching.

Phonics

I have a special education degree for grades K-12 and have taught both in the classroom and privately as a tutor for many years. Phonics is one of the reading survival skills that I emphasize and I have had success with my students.

Piano

I play the piano professionally for parties and as a church musician. I have been teaching piano to all ages and abilities for several decades.

Reading

I have a dual degree in special and elementary education and have tutored people of all ages and levels for many years. I am able to identify the skills in most need of thorough review to facilitate understanding and continued improvement.

Special Needs

I am certified to teach special education grades K-12 and have been both a classroom teacher and private tutor for special needs students. I have taught all types of special needs students and am quite patient and understanding

I am especially experienced at working with students who are not up to grade level and initiating a course of action to bring improved reading and writing skills.
