Hi I'm Tasha, I graduated from NIU with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and have a CDA certificate for teaching infants and toddlers. I'm a compassionate Tutor with 2 years experience teaching Elementary grade levels K through 6th in language, vocabulary, reading and math at Huntington Learning Center. Also, I have 11 years of experience as a Toddler Teacher working with Migrant families. As a Toddler Teacher I focused on areas of fine/gross motor skills, language, cognitive, and social emotional. I always have a positive outlook that helped to improve my students' eagerness, engagement and motivation to learn. Additionally, I actively engaged in collaborating with the Director, staff members, and parents from both schools, resulting in concise meaningful feedback and the ability to use that data to continually improve upon student performance. The student's successes are my successes too!

What I love most about working one-on-one is being able to connect with my students. From my experience, connecting was very important for students ability to learn from me no matter what age. My strategy I used for initial ice breakers is to focus on student interests and expand on them by creating lesson plans and/or use it in real world math problem solving. As a Toddler Teacher I had to incorporate students’ native language, which was Spanish, in all areas that I mentioned earlier. Some strategies I used were environmental print in both English and Spanish, books that represented children’s culture, and speaking repetitively. I want my students to enjoy the journey of learning in reaching their goals and fullest potential.

To get more established because I’m new here, I will be offering a free consultation meeting. So please take advantage of this offer and know I want all students to benefit greatly from my services in helping them to reach their fullest potential! Please reach out if you have any questions or suggestions, or want to schedule a lesson. You will receive a response from me promptly.

Elementary (K-6th)

I graduated from NIU with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and have a CDA certificate for teaching infants and toddlers. I used science proven strategies in Elementary Math, Language, and Reading. Always had a running log of each student I worked with such as observations, where we left off, skill level, strategies that worked well and not so well, assessments, feedback, reflection on session and the communication with parents, staff members and Director. Also, always being well prepared before each tutoring session was important to me. In addition, being knowledgable in subject matter before hand allowed me to expand on the subject and easily ask open-ended questions.
