In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Elementary includes grades K through 6 where all subjects are taught at each grade level. I have a Ph.D. in Elementary Education. I taught 5th & 6th grade for five years and taught courses in elementary education at the university level for 20+ years.
I was a university professor for 28 years. I have a great deal of proofreading experience. I read and corrected student papers while I was teaching. I also did proofreading for a couple of publishing companies for social studies materials that they were going to publish. I taught graduate classes as well as undergraduate classes in elementary education and graded graduate papers. I have also written my own.
Study skills include such things as how to listen, how to take notes, how to read materials and pick out the things that are important, how to manage time, how to work alone and with others, and how to analyze, synthesize, and make evaluations. It also involves time management and organization. It requires critical and creative thinking and the ability to solve problems.
