I am currently an elementary special education teacher, and have been teaching for 15 years. I have worked with a variety of different grade levels at the elementary level, from Kindergarten through 6th grade. I have also worked with students with a variety of different disabilities, including specific learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, cognitive delays and emotional disabilities. I am very patient and do well at anticipating the needs of my students and how to break down material so that it is more comprehensible for them and easier for them to access.
In my teaching, I utilize a variety of different methods and techniques, depending on the needs of the student. I utilize positive reinforcement to motivate my students. I believe in focusing on their strengths and interests and building off of these when I develop my lessons. All students are capable of learning and being successful. It is just a matter of finding what works for each individual and what clicks with them. I have extensive experience doing this.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
