About Junaid

I have a Master's degree in Mathematics with Distinction from Oxford University and a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics with Distinction from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I do math and physics tutoring, standardized test prep, and also have expertise in MATLAB, mathematical modeling, and data analysis. I've been tutoring students in math for the past 22 years. I have tutored students with all levels and abilities. I have taught at the university level, the community college level, and high school level. Currently, I am teaching Honors Math and Physics courses at a high school in Lombard, IL. I generally tutor in the west suburbs of Chicago (Lombard, Villa Park, Elmhurst, and Naperville). I am available on weekends to meet students on the Northside of Chicago (generally in the Albany Park area).

MATHEMATICS TUTORING:

I have experience tutoring students in Algebra, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Intermediate Algebra, Algebra 2, College Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Calculus (Differential and Integral Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, and Advanced Placement - AP), Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. I am also experienced in tutoring students in Discrete Math, Finite Math, and Real Analysis.

I have taught most of these classes professionally for many years. Last year, all of my students received 5's on their AP Calculus exam.

PHYSICS TUTORING:

I have experience tutoring students in Physical Science and Middle School Physics, High School Physics (Regular, Honors, and Enriched Honors levels), AP Physics C (Mechanics), and AP Physics 1.

I have taught and tutored physics for a few years now and can help students on homework assignments and prepare for tests and quizzes.

STANDARDIZED TEST PREPARATION:

I have a great deal of experience tutoring for the math sections in standardized tests such as the ACT, PSAT, SAT, GRE, and GMAT. I have taught ACT and PSAT/SAT prep classes at my high school for many years. I have received perfect scores of 800 on the GRE Math Section, the SAT I Math Section, and the SAT II Math IIc Subject Test.

MATHEMATICAL MODELING AND MATLAB:

I am an expert user of MATLAB and have been using it for the past 14 years. I have used it extensively in research in a wide variety of fields including clinical medicine, engineering, and finance. I also have extensive knowledge of the MATLAB programming environment and have created software in MATLAB. I have a Masters Degree in Mathematical Modeling and Scientific Computing from Oxford University. My main areas of expertise include data analysis, data importing/exporting, 2D/3D graphing and visualization, algorithms, optimization, curve fitting, regression, prediction, mathematical modeling, scientific computing, computational solutions to differential equations, image analysis, segmentation, and anything related to radiology specifically and medicine in general. I can also help with understanding technical papers and writing code which implements the various models and algorithms that are formulated in the papers. My strength is problem solving, being creative, thinking outside of the box to develop novel approaches to solving problems, and I rely heavily on my mathematical intuition as opposed to doing things in a way that is mechanical or uninspired. With respect to MATLAB or modeling projects, I can usually let you know immediately if I will be able to help. I have worked on both short and long term projects with physicians, engineers, undergraduates, and graduate students.

If you are in need of assistance with the mathematical/computational aspects of your project, feel free to contact me. I enjoy consulting on math projects tremendously and would love to share my wisdom and experience and hopefully learn and grow through our interaction on the project. Thank you for reading my profile.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

I have taken advanced courses in Calculus in college. I have taught AP Calculus AB for two years. I really love teaching Calculus.

Computer Science

I have a Master's Degree in Mathematical Modeling and Scientific Computing from Oxford University. I have been programming since I was a kid. I am experienced with Java and C. I am most well versed in MATLAB programming. I've taken a class in introductory C at Oxford. More importantly, I have a great deal of programming experience, especially in the area of algorithms and mathematical computer science. I am active on Project Euler and am currently in the top 3% of the programmers on this competitive programming site. You can check out Project Euler at https://projecteuler.net/

I want to get qualified in Computer Science on WyzAnt mainly to help students who need help in advanced MCS (Mathematical Computer Science) programming classes where they need to write complex algorithms. I would also love to help programmers who are taking their early steps on Project Euler and need mentorship to move forward in the various problems they have. Thanks!

Differential Equations

I took Math 220 at UIC and got an A in it. This is the intro DiffEQ class. I also took Math 480 and 481 at UIC and got A's in them. These are the more advanced DiffEq classes which include PDEs (Partial Differential Equations). I also took many graduate level DiffEq related classes at Oxford. I have tutored in this subject through the years as well.

Discrete Math

I took Math 215 at UIC which is very similar in content to Discrete Math. It is more of a theoretical version of Discrete Math which is more heavy on proofs. I did so well that I was asked by the Dept Head at UIC to be the TA for the class which I did for two semesters. I am very familiar with the concepts in Discrete Math. I recently tutored a student (John) from WyzAnt on Discrete Math and it went very well and he wrote a great review.

Finite Math

Finite Math overlaps significantly with Discrete Math. If anything, it is usually a less rigorous version of Discrete Math for social science and business students. I am very familiar with the content and had no trouble tutoring students in Finite Math at UIC. have a Master's Degree in Mathematics with Distinction from Oxford University and a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics with Distinction from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Linear Algebra

I took Math 320 at UIC and got an A in it. This is the theoretical Linear Algebra class for math majors. I also took a graduate level Numerical Linear Algebra class in Oxford. I have tutored in this subject through the years as well.

MATLAB

I have a Masters Degree in Mathematical Modeling and Scientific Computing with Distinction from Oxford University. I used MATLAB throughout my graduate studies and most of my Masters thesis was done with MATLAB. Since then, for the past twelve years I have used MATLAB for various research projects relating generally to mathematical modeling within the field of medicine. I am experienced not only with basic functions within MATLAB but also more advanced functions as well as writing software in MATLAB. I worked for a trading firm in downtown Chicago for two years writing algorithms in MATLAB. Finally, I am currently tutoring a PhD student at Northwestern University in MATLAB. We are going through introductory books at the moment and eventually plan on moving onto more advanced MATLAB books. He is really enjoying my teaching and wants to work with me long term.

Fantastic and brilliant tutor

My daughter was struggling in AP Physics C (Mechanics) because she hadn't taken Calculus the year before like the majority of her classmates. We sought out Junaid's help based on his background in both Physics C and Calculus BC, and he turned out to be a great tutor for her. Junaid's background is quite impressive. Even more impressive is his ability to make complex material digestible to a hig
