Lewis University (Int'l Relations)
Lewis University (Enrolled)
My name is Andres and I recently graduated with a Bachelor's in International Relations. I minored, and have a particular interest, in history and philosophy. I am currently enrolled in a master's program in Business Analytics at Lewis University. I also have experience in tutoring for AP high school courses as I was an AP student myself. I am fluent in German and Spanish and have recently taken up learning French.
I have extensive experience tutoring other university students, though I also have experience tutoring high school students. What I love about tutoring is that it allows me the opportunity to interact with other students and learn from them in addition to helping them further their understanding of the subject(s) they are having difficulty with.
I am particularly qualified to tutor in Biology, including ecology, genetics, and geology, as I achieved A's in both Environmental Science and Human Heredity. I am highly interested in philosophy and I received a minor in it. I completed courses with the highest grades possible in Intro to Philosophy, Ethics, Existentialism, Philosophy of Law, Philosophy of Science, and Philosophy of Superheroes. I am very well-versed in Political Philosophy, having completed History of Political Thought, International Relations, Political Ideologies, and Politics of Life and Death.
Please feel free to contact me and ask me any questions. I would be glad to tutor you in the subject areas in which I am fit to do so. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I completed three years of religious education while attending a Catholic grade school; during that time I received my First Communion and was confirmed. I completed Intro to Christian Theology and Old Testament courses at Lewis University. I can contribute historical and philosophical knowledge to Bible Studies.
I completed a course called Music for the Listener, which covered the evolution of music from ancient to contemporary times, with particular focus on the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods. I completed the course with an A, which included attending at least four Baroque, Classical, or Romantic concerts, two operas, and the completion of mutliple choice, written, and listening exams. In addition to the course, I am an avid listener of Classical and Romantic music. I am also very familiar with the Renaissance, Baroque, and Contemporary periods.
As an undergrad at Lewis University, I completed the following philosophy courses: Existentialism, Ethics, Intro to Philosophy, Philosophy of Law, Philosophy of Science, Social Philosophy and Superheroes. I also completed several political science courses which covered various philosophical concepts such as History of Political Thought, International Relations, Political Ideologies, and Politics of Life and Death. I am also an avid reader of philosophical texts, particularly Enlightenment, 19th, and 20th century philosophy.
I am most qualified to tutor in political science as I studied International Relations, a subcategory of political science. I served as president of the Alpha Delta Gamma Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. I completed the following courses in political science: American Foreign Policy, American National Government, Comparative Government, History of Political Thought II, International Relations, International Political Economy, International Topics, Political Ideologies, Political Research Methods, Politics of Life and Death, State and Local Government, and the Senior Capstone. I tutored several students over the course of my undergraduate career in the field of political science. I also received the Senior Award from the Political Science Department for International Relations.
I completed a course on Communications in which I was required to deliver four speeches (narrative, demonstrative, persuasive, and group) in front of a class of about 25 people. I have also given several speeches as President of the local chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha and Phi Alpha Theta, as well as the Lewis University Foreign Language Club. I have also given two presentations at symposiums in front of over fifty people.
I attended a Catholic school between grades 6 and 8 in which religion courses were required; I was raised Roman Catholic. As part of the Lewis University required courses, I took two theology courses: Intro to Christian Theology and Old Testament. The former focused on the history of the Catholic Church and the development of Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant theology and social teaching; the latter, being the more intensive, was a course focusing on an anthropological, historical, and philosophical analysis of the Old Testament and the Jewish tradition. I am also fairly well-versed in Hinduism (course in Non-Western Literature), Islam (courses completed in History of the Modern Middle East and History of Iran), and far-eastern theology and philosophies including Buddhism, Confucianism, Shintoism, and Taoism (courses completed in History of Modern China and History of Modern Japan).
I learned Spanish through my European-born father and by completing three courses throughout my educational career. I also served as President of the Lewis University Foreign Language Club.
