After so many years of teaching and tutoring, I have discovered the questions students ask the most, the skills students lack the most, and smooth, easy-to-remember ways to explain math. You can get everything YOU need by allowing me to be your mathematics tutor!
I been tutoring for about 10 years, and I teach in the (college) classroom as well. I taught honors Algebra 2/trig for high school students thru College of Dupage for 7 years, high school algebra full time for 2 years, algebra and geometry at College of DuPage for 3 years, and currently teach algebra at Waubonsee Community College while also doing professional tutoring through the Learning Commons at College of DuPage. I substitute teach in high schools, and proctor ACT exams. I live and love math! (you can too!)
Algebra came easy to me, but I used to cry when I tried to learn geometry. In pre-calc, I was a slow learner and I stubbornly asked a lot of questions. I know how hard it can be to learn math, and how important for the teacher to be patient, able to explain the concept from a variety of perspectives.
I also know that ANYONE can learn to do better with their math, if they have two things: a good teacher/tutor, and the will to put in the effort.

When I meet at the student's home, I require a parent to be at home for the entire time.
My son had Pre-Calc tutoring for one hour, and was happy with Laura's teaching style. He learned some things he could not understand, plus she showed him some easier way to solve a problem they did not teach him at high school.
Thank you Laura!
I was looking for a tutor for my sophomore daughter, who was struggling in Algebra 2. Laura S. was able to meet her within a day and stayed an extra half hour to help my daughter with areas of need. My daughter worked very well with Laura and felt she answered her questions and was very encouraging. My daughter has had several tutors in the past that did not work out so I am impressed that she took to Laura right away and wants to continue meeting with her.
I have a Master's in Math Education, and approximately 10 years' experience teaching math at two colleges. My ACT Math experience includes private tutoring for many years. I start by observing the students approach to the test, and to the individual questions. ACT Prep is not a good time to try to learn a lot of new maths but it is a great time to learn how to integrate what has been learned, have that understanding refreshed, and learn some test taking strategies.
I have been teaching math from arithmetic to pre-calculus for about 10 years : full time high school for 2 years, part time college for 4 years, and I professional tutoring thru a college and privately for about 12 years. I hold a MAT (master of art in teaching) with endorsement in mathematics. My positive attitude, understanding of the difficulty of learning math (sometimes), creative memory tools, and custom study skills are usually a 'hit' with my students and they keep coming back when needed!
I've taught Algebra2/Trig for honor students for 7 years through a college fast-track program for Jr High and High schools students. I also taught regular algebra in the classroom for 4 years and continue to do so for college. I am an adjunct instructor.
Geometry is a favorite of mine. It helps a person learn to think in a logical, sequential fashion, and it is the math I find most applicable to anyone's everyday life. I taught high school geometry courses for summer school for two years, college prerequisite geometry for 3 years, wrote and teach a geometry workshop for one of my college jobs for students preparing to take placement tests. I also have been tutoring it both professionally and privately for about 12 years.
Precalculus is one of the most requested courses for help in my regular job, which is Senior Academic Assistant at College of DuPage. I have been tutoring it there and also privately for about 5 years, and I taught it in the classroom as well. I see students 4 days a week requesting help with pre-calculus- both the graphing calculator course and the no-calculator course.
I tutor college level Trig, 4 days a week, as part of my teaching job at College of DuPage. I have been through the trig section high school and college Algebra 2 textbooks many times, teaching it in the classroom and tutoring many students privately. Trig is easy with a few memory tools that I can share related to memorizing trig ratios, unit circle, graphing and solving trig equations using identities, by pointing out some patterns you might not be getting at school.
