About Laura

I earned High Honors in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry as well as an Ancient History (Classics) degree from Dartmouth College. I then went on to earn a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Structural Biology from Cornell University's Medical College.

As an undergraduate, I spent a semester studying Archeology and History in Greece. Thus I bring first hand knowledge to your history studies. I won the Botany award for my genetic research on plants as an undergraduate, and I have done extensive research in Computational Biology for my Ph.D. dissertation. I was a teaching assistant for both undergraduate and graduate students for a variety of Biology classes.

I am fluent in a range of Science and History disciplines. As an Ivy League graduate, I learned from professors at the very top of their fields. I am excited to pass on this knowledge to you, and I am committed to helping you understand the material you wish to learn.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biochemistry

I am a biochemistry PhD and love teaching about chemical reactions and molecular structures!

Differential Equations

I have a passion for math and helping students overcome their fear of complicated equations. I received an A in this course in college, and I have successfully tutored students through differential equations for 5 years. By relating the equations to actual-real world situation, I help students see differential equations as more than just complicated symbols and numbers. Solving differential equations is primarily about pattern recognition and following a procedure from there. I work with students to understand which patterns they are looking for and how to identify them.

Genetics

I have an undergraduate degree and a PhD in Biochemistry. The classes and research areas for both degrees very heavily emphasized genetics. I received High Honors in Genetics in Graduate school, and genetics has always been a passion of mine!

Organic Chemistry

I took honors organic chemistry in college. Since then, I have received a PhD in biochemistry. The chemical portion of my PhD is heavily reliant on organic chemistry. When teaching organic chemistry, I try to relate these beautiful molecules to biology so that the course seems less like memorizing equations and more like understanding how life works. I have successfully helped many students through organic chemistry.

Amazing Tutor!

I've been working with Laura for lessons on various subjects since August 2013. She's helped me prepare for the SAT Chemistry subject exam last summer, as well as the SAT Math and ACT Math/Science sections. I received exceptional scores on the SAT and ACT exams. Laura is excellent at diagnosing and addressing problem issues and then transforming the trouble topics into relatable, easily understan
