Northern Illinois University (Special Education)
Olivet Nazarene College (Master's)
I am a recently retired school teacher. In 2014, I received an excellence award for part time faculty of the year. I have degrees in Special Education, and regular education K-12. My master's degree is in Curriculum and Instruction. In the college I worked at, besides teaching, I ran the Peer Tutoring Center. As part of my duties, I tutored college students in all areas of academics from math to checking English papers. One outreach at the college was tutoring high school students at night to help them with their homework and prepare for tests. It has always been a passion of mine to watch students learn new material.
As part of my work, I particularly enjoyed tutoring Algebra 1, Algebra 2, College Algebra, geometry, and reading comprehension. Also, I tutored math from 5th grade to 8th grade, along with any homework or test prep. I also tutored homeschooled students in all their homework, mostly math. Also, I taught a course on ACT prep for 6 years. My goal in every session is to present the material in a way that students can understand and eventually perform the task by themselves, experiencing the true meaning of learning.
I am free to tutor Mondays through Friday from 9AM - 7PM. I will tutor on Saturdays and Sundays by appointment. My fees are $45 an hour, with Lesson Packages at a discount. If a canceling is necessary , please contact me 24 hours in advance in order not to be charged.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
