Bio

I am qualified to teach English as a Second Language (ESL), Writing, and/or American history, because I have a Bachelors of Arts degree in American history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (May 2012) and a TEFL/TESOL certificate from the International TEFL Academy (June 2013) in Chicago, Illinois. Also, I took two Creative Writing classes at Northwestern University, which furthered my appreciation for the English language and the writing process.

In college, I did extensive research on historical topics; stayed aware of current debates within the academic community; and studied under some of the most accomplished historians in the U.S, such as Jeremi Suri and William Cronon. Also, I worked as an Undergraduate Writing Fellow in the University of Wisconsin’s English Department, helping fellow undergraduates improve their academic writing. These are just a few of the accomplishments which qualify me to be a Writing and American history tutor.

I taught beginner, intermediate, and advanced ESL students during a practicum to earn my TEFL/TESOL certificate. To prepare for the practicum, I wrote lesson plans, made multimedia activities, and drafted practice worksheets for my students. I also took an intensive 180-hour course on TEFL/TESOL theory, in addition to the practicum; for this course, I completed numerous writing assignments, studied the fundamentals of grammar, and participated in class discussions on how best to teach English. Thus, I hope to continue teaching and tutoring using humor, patience, and compassion with all of my students.
