Why tutor?

I am an Adjunct Professor of English and professional tutor with a passion for teaching literature, composition, reading, and providing coaching for college writing assignments. Assisting students with college applications is also my specialty. I have many different approaches for all types of learners--auditory, visual, and tactile--to achieve success, including differentiated instruction for students with learning disabilities. Regardless of the individual's needs, I continually provide each client with formative feedback and tools to be successful in the high school or college classroom, with college admissions, on standardized tests, or in the workplace. This success translates to confidence and, eventually, one's own empowerment.

I have over 14 years of experience teaching American, British, world, and Advance Placement Literature with a concentration on writing research papers, memoirs, essays, and literary analyses with an emphasis on organization, grammar, and the development and support of thesis statements. I have a successful teaching style and want to continue to share my methods with students who want to succeed.

Why select me as your tutor?

I can coach you to be successful on any standardized test through practice, knowing what to expect, simplified grammar rules, and brain activity exercises.

One of my unique specializations is coaching high school seniors how to write college application essays "that work!"

As a former high school and NCAA Division I athlete, I can empathize with the demands and schedules of student-athletes. My teaching style is a coaching style and I believe in repetition, movement, interactive learning; technology to enhance learning; understanding, and communication; and above all, the successful results of all of my students.

My students scored a 21% higher pass rate on the AP Literature and Composition Exam than the global passing average. Why is this? This is because I am able to implement a differential way of teaching for all kinds of learners and to focus on each student's strengths and weakness.

I have developed painless strategies to learn to write Research Papers using proper MLA formatting. There should never be a reason to feel anxious when a research paper is assigned, and by following my methods, students will be able to stand out through well-executed assignments.

What are you waiting for?

My patience and compassion will help transform your power, courage, and success.

Fast turn around and great edits!

Lisa helped with my first revision for my college application essay. Her revisions were impactful and really helped convey my thoughts in a clearer and more direct manner.

Inspiring and patient

Lisa has been working with my son for several months now, and I can wholeheartedly say she has been a blessing. My son is a very reluctant writer and with Lisa’s help and guidance he is making great improvements in this area. She is always prompt and reliable and ready to get down to business each session. My son actually enjoys his sessions with her. I highly recommend Lisa. She is very professional and very talented.

Knowlegeable, supportive and engaging teacher

Lisa helped me zoom in on the exact issues that needed to be improved, by explaining my school teacher's comments and drawing out the corrections from me. I felt she was kind and genuinely interested in helping me improve.

Time Well Spent

It's like herding a stubborn cat to get my daughter to agree with tutoring on her AP English. She did it graciously but not thrilled. Spent several hours this past week going over things, and she has now confessed to me that she was very glad to have had taken the time, as Lisa gave her very good pointers and she feels it was time well spent. Thank you, Lisa!

Good teaching session

Good teaching session, she is knowledgeable and know how to teach. Would recommend her for tutoring sessions to anyone. Specially the way she gathers info on what learners need to improve themselves

Helpful and knowledgable tutor.

Lisa has helped me feel more confident about the ACT. After meeting with her once and trying a practice English test on my own I only missed 13 out of 75. She has taught me many strategies that I can use on the test. I am really glad I chose her!
