I currently work with a number of the premier charter schools in Chicago and previous to that I taught for twelve years at a private college preparatory school in Houston. I moved back to the Chicagoland area in 2014 to be closer to my ailing parents. Currently, I hold an Illinois teaching certificate in social studies with eight endorsements including world history, American history, European history, geography, sociology, economics, government/civics, and secondary education have recently long term substituted for reading, writing, and chemistry. At my previous school (St. Pius X - Houston) I taught advanced placement and honors courses in American history, world history, and geography. Aside from my honors and AP courses, I have also taught American government and economics. Additionally, I have experience teaching communications which I taught using a multi media approach. Finally, I have also been a proctor for the HSPT, PLAN, and ACT exams over the last eight years.
During my tenure at St. Pius X High School I was the boys' head soccer coach and assistant varsity baseball coach and from 2012-2014 I was an Associate Dean of Students. My teaching career started while I was in the United States Air Force, where I taught survival school, self-aid/buddy care, and Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured (a college level EMT course for National Certification).
I find that students must be an active part in their own learning as we all learn somewhat differently. Over the last ten years I have focused on improving my students and athletes study skills, organizational ability, and their own personal best methods of learning. I've had much experience and success with students with learning differences and other clinical diagnoses throughout my teaching career. Further successes include the improvement of my clients' grades, self confidence, and study skills, building and creation of a number of courses for my former employer, extremely high success rates in my AP courses scores (50% made a four or higher on the exam in May), and my help and guidance has continued to improve my athletes' scores and grades through a mandatory study program that I implemented asheadsoccer coach. I look forward to helping students now and in the future. Jason is very smart as well as positive and energetic. His passion for teaching and vast experience as an educator was clear right away. Jason took the time to really talk to my high school age son and get to know his strengths and weaknesses. He is collaborating with my son to develop a long-term plan for success as well as strategies to study smarter and reach his goals in all of his classes. Now, my son is more excited about school than he has ever been and can see a clear path to success. Jason is an A+ motivator and tutor!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

My AP students make improvements each year and my experience proctoring the ACT helps me understand what your student may need to focus upon.
