Hi, I'm Amber! I am a third-year student at Yale University studying mathematics. While I’ve always been drawn to math, my true passion for the subject was sparked by my first college math professor, who championed creative problem-solving above all else. Throughout my education, I’ve been fortunate to have wonderful teachers and mentors who have inspired me to learn math — I strive to provide the same for all my students.

My teaching philosophy is simple: I focus on building students’ enthusiasm and intuition for math. I have multiple years of teaching experience, from which I’ve found that students learn best when they develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. In my lessons, I make sure to explain abstract and challenging concepts with concrete examples, and I always encourage my students to ask questions and take creative risks in their approaches. I truly believe that no student is inherently “bad at math” — rather, learning math is a matter of building confidence in problem-solving and maintaining a positive attitude, which I believe I can help every student achieve.

I currently work as a teaching assistant for an introductory math class called “The Structure of Networks”. My responsibilities include hosting weekly office hours to discuss class topics and homework problems, as well as meeting with students individually and answering questions online. The class is geared toward non-STEM students; as a result, I’ve learned to foster my students’ appreciation for mathematical problem-solving.

I have also worked as a math/science teacher at a summer program for high school students, where I designed and taught seminars about topics such as probability & statistics, biomathematics, and cryptography. My students from the program have said that my teaching inspired them to study math and related fields in college. I’m passionate about instilling a love for math for all students, no matter their background or experience level.

In high school, I received a perfect score of 36 on the ACT, a perfect
