My Education and Counseling degrees have served me well in all of my employment. My students have been as young as age five and as old as sixty-seven including graduate students. My most recent education position was in the area of retention and career services at the College of Lake County. However, because of my degree in Education, I have taught, tutored and substituted grades K-9. Due to my graduate degree in Counseling, past employment and involvement with the Lake County Counselor Association, I have experience helping students with college essays and career planning.
It is this passion for education, for nurturing students, being creative and inspiring creativity and learning from others that I can offer students from kindergarten readiness -6th grade, tutoring in English and Social Studies as well as College Counseling. In my short three years at the College of Lake County as a Part Time Retention Specialist I teamed up with the Transfer Specialist and sponsored “Mission Possible”, a symposium of college representatives for students planning to transfer to four-year colleges. To demonstrate the importance of Goal Setting and Networking, I created PowerPoint presentations, which were presented in monthly workshops. The college now has a working relationship with W. W. Grainger, which was a connection I forged. Finally, on March 13, 2015 the college was to sponsor a “Suit-Up” clothing drive for men, which I initiated and organized because I was able to identify this as a need. My experience at the college as well as my previous positions through Catapult Learning and Ombudsman have given me opportunities to work with a diverse student population. I bring an energy, enthusiasm and passion for teaching and look forward to the opportunity to continue this work.
I minored in English and taught 7th, 8th and 9th grade English. I have also tutored students for the TOEFL. Proofreading is something I enjoy and am a stickler for typos.
With a degree in Education which includes current certification for grades K-9, I have the training required to teach all elementary school classes. I have also tutored children and seek to assess their needs before proceeding.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
