I love working with young children to help build reading skills. Experienced with basic phonics reading skills all the way to promoting reading comprehension of advanced subjects. Reading is a passion of my own and everyone should have access to the advantages that reading skills and understanding can bring them.
With a college minor in Biology I am also happy to help with exploring scientific concepts up through High School Biology if this is an area that the student feels they need to grow in. Interest and comprehension in science can be integral to a students understanding. I also combine my tutoring skills for Reading and Science to work with students on the ACT Science Reasoning and Reading sections which can be difficult and daunting parts of the ACT.
Working as an undergraduate teaching assistant and with college students I have found a passion for helping others learn. Background is primarily in helping edit and prepare papers and providing constructive feedback in writing at the high school and college level. If college admissions essays or writing that first real research paper is daunting I love to help students learn to express themselves more clearly and learn strategies for writing a great paper.
One thing to note: I will not be accepting to tutor students currently enrolled at Lake Forest College. This represents a potential conflict of interest for me. I love working with young children to help build reading skills. Experienced with basic phonics reading skills all the way to promoting reading comprehension of advanced subjects. Reading is a passion of my own and everyone should have access to the advantages that reading skills and understanding can bring them.
With a college minor
Hired tutor for my daughter. She was excellent at not only explaining how to do the lab but motivating my daughter and helping her with becoming invested in it. Would highly recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My degree in Psychology with a minor in Biology was all about synthesizing information from scientific writing. As a college student I acted as an undergraduate teaching assistant/tutor in a Research Methods course to peer teach in the topic of reading scientific papers and writing them. I will bring these skills to my work as a tutor for you.
I have a minor in Biology from a University of Science and Technology. It has always been a real passion of mine to help others with understanding the world around them. I like to use 1:1 discussion of the biological topics that are a struggle and then explore them in a way that can make sense to the person being tutored.
I myself learned how to read through 1:1 tutoring and have carried that amazing experience with me throughout my life. I have experience using a phonics method of teaching young students how to decode words and begin building a strong basis for future reading challenges. I believe strongly in this method as it allows my students to begin sounding out words quickly as they catch on to the sounds letters are associated with. I have tutored mostly very young children between 4-8, most significantly working with an entire kindergarten class on reading skills for a semester.
I have edited dozens of essays from the high school to grad school level for students seeking better writing skills and clearer essays. Included in this are college application essays and final papers for classes. I also have experience working with students through topic development and enhancing their skills finding reputable sources for papers.
