About Andrea

I've been teaching in middle school and high school for the past 10 years! I started right out of college and it is truly my passion. I have my masters and bachelors degrees In special education. I have taught every subject at the middle school level (reading, English, math, history, and science) even though it was a self-contained classroom I followed the general education curriculum. I provided more structure, visualization tools, and scaffolding measures to help my students. I have also co-taught and held my own classes at the high school level in pre-algebra and algebra 1. Math is my favorite!

I'm a very positive and energetic person, and if you're willing to learn I'm ready to teach! I taught middle school math as well as high school pre-algebra and algebra 1. I taught a social skills and learning strategies course at the high school level for general education and students with special needs.

I'm flexible on my availability and meeting preference.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taught pre-algebra and algebra 1 self-contained classes as well as co-taught classes in a high school. I have been teaching for the past 10 years in middle and high school. I hold a bachelors and masters degree in special education. I have a current up to date teaching license in IL.

Special Needs

I hold a bachelor's degree from Illinois Stare University as well as as a master's degree from George Mason University in special education. I am currently certified in IL and VA to teach k-12 grades with autism, learning disabilities, and emotional/behavior disorders. I have been teaching special education for the past 10 years in multiple settings and classrooms.

Study Skills

I hold a master's degree in special education where I have been trained in how to teach study skills. I taught a learning strategies curriculum for 3 years at the high school level at a High School in VA. This class focused on how to prepare for tests, provided study habits and tools, and I developed checklists and strategies for students struggling in their classes.
