My name is Warren R. I currently teach Biology, and Chemistry to high school students, who are considered both traditional and diverse learners in a general education setting. I have spent nearly 15 years in education - 10 at the elementary level, and the last 3 at the high school level. I plan to continue my Masters in Special Education this coming spring, completing in two terms.
I have come to enjoy interacting with students and seeing them gain mastery, demonstrating their increased understanding of subject content. It is very rewarding to assist students overcome challenges and see the gains in their achievement. I truly look forward to being of ample service to any students of the Wyzant Community.
The approach to providing high quality tutoring in math in that, after I get specific information form the students indicating what they've recently learned, what they are currently being taught, and any insight to what they anticipate covering next. I always start with a brief informal assessment (inventory) to see the student's skill sets/ possible deficiencies. I observe how they approach solving each problem, and use this information to guide my practice session. Any subsequent lessons are often guided by the students performance in prior sessions. I also incorporate multiple means - visual illustrations, hands-on practice problems, and real-world parallels- into session exercises. I close sessions with a small number of problems covering the content in which they need direct tutoring assistance
I incorporate visual illustrations, hands-on practice problems, and real-world parallels into session exercises. If applicable I may incorporate brief video segments (2-4 min) demonstrating related science concepts. I would pose 2-3 questions for student to answer in writing how the related concepts were applied in the video. For terms, formulas, and processes, I have students refer to, or complete diagrams, graphs, or tables to reinforce concepts. I close sessions with a small number of problems covering the content in which they need direct tutoring assistance.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
