Looking for an experienced personal tutor who will take the time to draw up personalized lesson plans and focus entirely on you? Look no further. I have tutored students from middle school through college, in a wide range of subjects like: basic algebra, AP History, Essay writing and Creative Workshops. My tutoring began while I was still in college, assisting my classmates in subjects that I had already taken, such as Entry Level Political Science and Freshman Preceptorial. After graduating from Knox College, I was hired by 1 on 1 Academic Tutors and the Los Angeles Unified School District tutor Math and English to disadvantaged students in danger of failing the California High School Exit exam. During this time I also worked with Frog Tutoring, and tutored high school students in AP European History, AP US History, and AP Gov.

Perhaps the best example of my tutoring skills is that of my last student while at 1 on 1 Academic Tutors. My student was in his senior year of high school, and struggling with the English portion of the California High School Exit Exam. On our first day together, I provided him with a comprehensive English test that he failed. After I graded the test and met back with him, we went over the subjects he did most poorly on, and I discussed with him his personal goals beyond High School. With these goals and interests in mind, I worked to relate each lesson in some way to him personally, making each skill we worked on together important to him outside of school, as well as for the test. When my six months with him was up, he took the same test again, and passed with flying colors. That summer I received a thank you email from him telling me that he had passed his English class and was graduating High School, and that he was about to take his ASVAB.

If contracted I will first meet with you to find out what you are looking for, and work together draw up a rough schedule of all future lessons. Before each lesson, I will prepare and bring materials based off of previous lessons, your personal goals and the plan we agreed on in our first meeting. My student success rate is high, with an average of at least one letter grade improvement, sometimes more.

Reading,

Reading

As a double major in Creative Writing and International Relations at Knox College, I was required to fully develop my critical and analytical reading skills early. Whether it was Kissenger's Diplomacy for my political science courses, or Moby Dick for my English Prosody class, reading is a must for any Liberal Arts degree. Since graduating, I have taught students in ages ranging between 8 and 22, and I was hired by the Los Angeles Unified School District to help tutor students who were in danger of failing their High School Exit Exams.

I started as a tutor in college, reading and editing the papers of my friends and classmates. Since then, I have perfected my ability to proofread and teach students how to edit and set up their own papers in such a way as to maximize the efficiency of their arguments in a clear and concise manner.

SAT Reading

Good test taking strategies and a high grasp of reading comprehension allowed me to score in the 99th percentile of all English test takers on the SAT and the SAT II. I've tutored English for both middle and high school students for over four years and I have a firm grasp on all requirements, and how to get there.

History

European History,

European History

I graduated from Knox College with a degree in International Relations, with a special focus on European politics. When in High School, I took the AP European History test, and received a 4. I have also tutored AP European History, with my student receiving a 4 on the AP Euro test, while his classmates averaged a 2.
Political Science,

Political Science

I graduated from Knox College with a BA in International Relations. Because International Relations is a subset of political science, I also took classes in Comparative Politics and Political Theory. Several of my classes required research papers, and I also was required to write a proposal for a research grant.
Social Studies,

Social Studies

As a International Relations major at Knox College, I took a special interest in History classes. I've tutored AP European History, AP US History, AP Government, and World History. I've also tutored English at a middle school level, and I am comfortable with all the qualifications found in the average social studies course.

Extremely Helpful

Sean is an excellent tutor. He has been extremely helpful in assisting me with my English writing skills. I am an adult learner and he knows how to approach me as such. I will continue to use him going forward.

Patient, Knowledgeable Tutor with an Individualized Approach

Sean really helped my high school daughter improve her writing organization and mechanics. During their once-per-week sessions over the summer, he understood her challenges and opportunity areas, and devised exercises and assignments which focused on her problem area. Sean was patient and encouraging, and devised assignments which fit nicely into her areas of interest. As a result, she is a much more fluent and proficient writer, and better able to meet the demands of her rigorous high school.

Great Tutor

My son took the ACT Test in April and his scores were less than impressive. We hired Sean to help my son prepare for the June ACT Test. Sean has been extremely professional and has a nice low-key style to his tutoring. Our son has enjoyed working with Sean and I can see a remarkable difference in my son's confidence when taking the practice tests. This past Saturday, my son took the June ACT Test and he felt much more at ease and more confident in his skills. We would definitely recommend Sean without question. If you are looking for a tutor and you are reading this review, you are choosing the right person for your kid!
