My ESL training, which began in 2009, includes completing an ESL training program and two Spanish classes at our local community college, which also involved over a year and a half working as an instructor's helper. To present, I've been teaching ESL programs at local community libraries creating curricula, lesson plans, and presenting it to the students for the past four years. Now I'm working teaching English to employees for a corporation. My focus is on phonics, pronunciation, vocabulary, and conversational skills. I supplement lessons with worksheets, PowerPoint presentations, and any other material that will enable students to learn. I also enjoy working one-on-one as well as in the classroom setting.
I have been working in the service business world for over 30 years that involved training others for their specific job qualification, I find teaching a very rewarding and enjoyable experience. Since I became an instructor for the community college ESL program, helping a student reach their goal in learning the English language in my classes is gratifying and fulfilling. I've had students from many countries from around the world that I find extremely interesting. I love learning about their culture as well as helping them learn more about our country and language. Also, I received a background check and security clearance in 2006 while volunteering with the US Auxiliary Coast Guard. I have a certification as a TEFL,"Teaching English as a Second language." This is a 20 unit, 120 hour certification course. This is what is needed to teach English in other countries. My ESL training,
Tutor requires a minimum of two hours depending on distance of travel.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
